Snowy Evening in North Conway

The snow is falling here in North Conway, NH and the winds up on Mount Washington are ripping. If you’ve ever been up here you know how impressive and beautiful Mount Washington is. You can see it for miles and miles from every direction.

After checking into our hotel I got some last minute supplies at EMS. I found a super comfortable pair of warm pants to go between the long johns and snow pants. I needed a pair anyway for cold ski days so figured I’d splurge – and based on their comfort I may never take them off.

We decided to hold off on lunch and just wait for dinner – so we snagged a cupcake. A healthy choice, no doubt.

The nicest thing about North Conway is the hospitality. A local business owner must have heard about our visit and put this peacock outside his store. It’s like we never left 1422 New Britain Ave.!

The weather forecast appears to be holding for tomorrow. Temperatures when we get up to the summit (around 10 a.m.) will be around 5 degrees with winds sustained in the 40-50 m.p.h. range. That’s actually pretty tame for Mount Washington. As an area of low pressure scoots east toward Nova Scotia winds are expected to increase to 55 to 70 m.p.h. with gusts over hurricane force and temperatures below zero.

For those keeping track a temperature of zero and a wind of 60 m.p.h. yields an ever so tropical wind chill of -33.

Will keep you posted from the summit once we get up there tomorrow!

  2. I’ve was up on Mount Washington 3 years ago, but that was in July. It was foggy and cloudy. The winds were only 5 mph. Still it was a great trip. Glad it was foggy because I wasn’t as nervous driving that narrow winding rode. lol
